Reducing the flow of water into the Euphrates to 185 cubic meters per second

The General Administration of Dam Water in North and East Syria announced that the water system to Syria from the Euphrates has decreased to but 200 cubic meters per second.


The General Administration of Dams Water stated that the decline within the Euphrates waters poses a threat to the water security of the regions of northern and eastern Syria and Iraq, and contributes to the deterioration of the economic situation additionally to catastrophic environmental effects if the water continues to say no at this rate.


The General Administration added, in media statements, that the share of water resources of the Euphrates flowing into the Syrian lands reached 185 cubic meters per second on Saturday, in what it described as "another catastrophic drop by the extent of the Euphrates ."

It is reported that the Turkish occupation authorities have confined the water of the Euphrates since the start of February from the regions of northern and eastern Syria, which affects the supply of services beverage and electricity, additionally to the damage to agricultural lands that depend upon river water to irrigate crops, as water resources reached about 200 cubic meters per second over the past three months.



It is noteworthy that Syria's share of water resources is 500 cubic meters per second, from which Iraq gets 60 percent, consistent with the tripartite agreement between Turkey, Syria and Iraq in 1987.
